Horror-meister Dario Argento got a standing ovation in Hollywood Thursday night presenting the 4K newly restored version of his 1975 classic shlocker Deep Red (Profondo Rosso) and celebrating late FX maestro Carlo Rambaldi on the 100th anniversary of his birth.
Long applause, a standing ovation, and much laughter., was how Hollywood's most prestigious film institution and its audience hailed the 85-year-old Argento, who presented the restored 4K version of his masterpiece in the Great Hall of the Academy of Motion Pictures Museum.
The master of suspense arrived in Los Angeles to inaugurate a retrospective dedicated to another great name in Italian cinema: Carlo Rambaldi, the special effects craftsman and three-time Oscar winner for 'King Kong,' 'Alien,' and 'E.T.', whose birth centenary is celebrated this year and who will receive a star on the Walk of Fame next fall.
"It's an emotion I never imagined.
Coming here, to this temple of cinema, to pay homage to a great friend and collaborator, has touched me deeply.
