LOS ANGELES — Forget Game 7 of the World Series, a rarity in the sport that can often result in two punch-drunk teams staggering off the ropes into an anti-climactic finish.
You want the real juice? Game 5 with the Series tied 2-2 is where it's at.
That heart-thumping scenario plays out this evening, with the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers both aiming to gain the upper hand before the World Series heads back to Toronto for, at least, Game 6.
This is the eighth time in the past 15 years we've seen a 2-2 Series tie; in five of the past seven most recent occurences, the team that won Game 5 went on to capture the championship.
The only exceptions? The Washington Nationals in 2019, topping the Houston Astros in a rare World Series in which the road team won every game. And in 2011, the Texas Rangers held a 3-2 lead in the World Series – and then David Freese happened.
