The Supreme Court on Wednesday (October 29, 2025) allowed Gitanjali J. Angmo to amend her petition and launch a sharper, updated attack against the Centre for detaining her husband and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk under the national security law.
Mr. Wangchuk was detained under the National Security Act (NSA), 1980 following violent protests on September 24 in Leh. He was detained on September 26 and shifted to the Jodhpur Central Jail in Rajasthan.
As talks on Ladakh resume, Centre offers special provisions under Article 371
A Bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N.V. Anjaria allowed Ms. Angmo’s application to file additional grounds highlighting “grave and incurable lapses” committed by the Centre during Mr. Wangchuk’s continued detention, including that the activist was given the complete grounds for his detention nearly a month after depriving him of his personal liberty.
The court asked Ms. Angmo to file the amended petition with additional grounds in a week, and directed the Centre and the Union Territory of Ladakh to respond within 10 days after.
