The Ukraine war and Gaza truce were on on the agenda of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on a visit to the Vatican Monday.

Pope Leo XIV received Orbán in audience, who subsequently met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State.

"During the cordial discussion at the Secretariat of State, the solid bilateral relations were underlined and appreciation," the Holy See reported, "for the Catholic Church's commitment to promoting the social development and well-being of the Hungarian community was emphasized, with particular attention to the role of the family, the education and future of young people, as well as the importance of protecting the most vulnerable Christian communities.

"Ample space was also given to European issues, with particular attention to the conflict in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East."
