Seth Meyers on Thursday mocked Donald Trump’s fixation with the $250 million ballroom that’s being built in place of the White House’s East Wing, which was controversially torn down this week.
The president “brings it up every chance he gets,” said the “Late Night” host. “He loves everything about it, even the noise.”
Meyers aired footage of Trump boasting about “building a world-class ballroom” to attendees at a White House event, telling them: “You probably hear the beautiful sound of construction to the back. You hear that sound? Oh, that’s music to my ears. I love that sound. Other people don’t like it. I love it.”
“That’s how you know Donald Trump was never a real New Yorker,” Meyers quipped. “Real New Yorkers fucking hate the sound of construction.”
Queens-born Trump “is the only New Yorker who’d lift up his window and yell, ‘Hey, keep that noise up! I love the sound of construction,’” the comedian added. “The rest of us hate it. I’d rather hear my neighbor’s trumpet practice through the wall at 3 a.m.”
