The Pentagon’s “next generation” press corps, which the body announced on Wednesday, is reportedly heavy on right-wing outlets that have trafficked in conspiracy theories and levied attacks on traditional publications.
According to Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell, the so-called press corps is now comprised of more than 60 new journalists who are independent or reporters from “new media,” and 26 previously credentialed journalists who were willing to accept a restrictive new policy from the Defense Department.
Parnell didn’t disclose a list of the outlets who complied, but several have posted publicly about joining the press corps, according to The New York Times.
“Numerous right-wing, pro-Trump online outlets said they were among those that had agreed to the rules, including The Gateway Pundit; Human Events; LindellTV; Frontlines, an arm of Turning Point USA; and The National Pulse,” the Times’ Erik Wemple writes.
RedState and the cable network Real American’s Voice are also among the outlets, The Washington Post reported after obtaining a draft of the Pentagon announcement.
