WASHINGTON, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Members of the Pentagon press corps, who refused to sign new coverage rules and walked out last month, don't want fellow reporters and U.S, citizens to forget how they played a vital role in monitoring Defense Department actions.
As a tribute to them, the National Press Club in Washington has created an exhibition dedicated to these reporters, most of whom turned in their security badges rather than agree to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's new mandates.
Among those: Reporters were barred from freely roaming Pentagon halls. Building access was sharply curtailed. And, Journalists had to sign a pledge promising not to obtain or use any unauthorized material, even if the information was unclassified.
Dozens of reporters from outlets like the Washington Post, wire services and major TV networks recused to sign and walked out en masse.
