WASHINGTON – Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) suggested Wednesday she’s considering a run for Senate following a GOP-led redraw of the state’s congressional districts.
If courts bless the new district maps, Crockett said, she’ll have to decide whether to run in a new district, since her Dallas-based district will cease to exist.
“And then the other option is, every other day there’s a poll that comes out that makes it clear that I can win the primary for the U.S. Senate race in Texas,” Crockett said on SiriusXM’s “The Lurie Daniel Favors Show.” “And I am looking.”
“Because if you want to take my seat of 766,000 away, I feel like there has to be some karma in that to where I take your seat that is for 30 million away,” Crockett continued. “So we are, you know, the primary is the primary. That’s cool, but you got to win the general. So we are doing some testing here shortly to see if I can expand the electorate.”
Democrats are likely to be skeptical that Crockett’s in-your-face style, which wins her plaudits in her current bright blue congressional district and kudos from national liberals, will translate to a statewide victory in Texas. President Donald Trump won the state by 14 percentage points in 2024. A chaotic GOP primary in the state has given Democrats the slimmest of hopes they can pull off an upset and claim the seat now held by Republican Sen. John Cornyn.
