Oct. 22 (UPI) -- U.S. Vice President JD Vance addressed Israeli concerns to reporters by saying the United States isn't there to "monitor a toddler," but to keep an eye on the situation because of the amount of work to be done.

Following a whirlwind of visits from U.S. officials -- Vance, envoy Steve Witkoff, investor Jared Kushner and the coming visit from Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday -- Israeli media and commentators have implied that the United States is calling all the shots and intends to manage Israeli military moves.

Vance and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after meeting Wednesday morning, stressed that the United States and Israel are partners.

"We don't want a vassal state, and that's not what Israel is," Vance said. "We don't want a client state, and that's not what Israel is. We want a partnership."
