WASHINGTON — Vice President JD Vance will head to Israel on Monday to push for the implementation of the second phase of a fragile peace deal brokered by the Trump administration that halted the war in Gaza.
Vance will be joined by Trump special envoy Steve Witkoff, a key negotiator of the 20-point peace plan put forward by the White House. The pair are expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a source familiar with the visit said.
Israeli media first reported the visit.
The trip comes amid rising concerns that Hamas has begun to regain control of the enclave with reports of public executions and violene while holding on to hostage remains the militant group previously agreed to turn over.
Hamas has returned nine of 28 bodies of deceased hostages after Israel threatned to cut the number of aid trucks it would allow into Gaza in half.
