Vehicular traffic on the busy Thoothukudi – Palayamkottai National Highway was completely paralysed for more than 30 minutes on Wednesday following road roko by the villagers at Pottalurani intersection.
The protesting villagers said all buses including the point-to-point buses being operated between Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli should be stopped at Pottalurani intersection. Moreover, the villagers demanded the immediate closure and dismantling of the fish processing unit near Pottalurani as they alleged that the foul smell emanating from the company had made their village inhabitable.
