The Puttur Rural Police in Dakshina Kannada district shot at a truck when its driver, who was allegedly transporting 10 cattle illegally, did not heed to their warning to stop the vehicle near Ishwaramangala on October 22 early morning.

Driver Abdulla from Kasargod in neighbouring Kerala, who the police said is a habitual cow lifter, was injured on his leg and was admitted to a government hospital in Mangaluru.

Police fired at the truck and the driver when the latter attempted to kill police personnel by ramming the vehicle to the police jeep.

Acting on a specific information, the Puttur Rural Police attempted to intercept the truck. However, the driver and another accused person, did not stop the truck forcing the police to chase them for about 10 km. When the police tried to stop the truck after overtaking it, Abdulla allegedly rammed the truck to the police vehicle.
