MGM Healthcare’s Varam Women’s Superspecialty Centre launched its Menopause Evening Clinic in the city on Saturday.

The clinic, launched to mark the centre’s fifth anniversary and World Menopause Day, will provide specialised gynaecology services and personalised care for women navigating the menopause transition.

Jaishree Gajaraj, head of the department and senior consultant, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Varam Women’s Superspeciality Centre, said awareness and timely care could help women embrace the transition.

Noting that premature menopause may occur due to stress, lifestyle habits, or medical conditions, she added that women could ensure hormonal health with nutrition, exercise and sleep, coupled with periodical check-ups.

In India, women experience menopause between the ages 45 and 47, and this is projected to rise steadily by 2026. While studies indicate that 90% of women experience symptoms such as backache and disturbed sleep pattern, less than half of them seek medical help. This underscores the need to create awareness and accessible care, she said.
