The district has been allocated ₹2 crore towards subsidy for setting up of value addition units for agricultural produces. The subsidy for produces unique to the region was earlier announced by the Minister for Agriculture. According to Collector C. Dinesh Kumar, value addition units for tomato, jasmine, shallots, plantains, drumstick, mangoes, millets and rice will be created.
The subsidy seeks to cut farming losses for growers by minimising post-harvest losses and adding value to the produces. This would generate agro-based entrepreneurs, according to the administration.
The subsidy is open for all categories of applicants including farmers, producers, companies, women, Adi Dravidars, entrepreneurs, SHGs, cooperative societies.
The scheme envisions a subsidy of 25% for general category and 35 % for others of the total investment or a maximum subsidy of ₹1.50 crore, whichever is less. The scheme will disburse the subsidy in two instalments of 60% and 40% and also a 5 % of interest subsidy.
Interested persons are invited to avail the opportunity.
