The Chennai police have arrested two private firm employees for allegedly assaulting a couple following a dispute over a delay in completing interior work at their house in Villivakkam.

According to the police, Babu, 37, and his wife Deepika, residents of South Jagannathan Nagar, Villivakkam, had recently purchased a flat in the same area. They had hired Vimal and Shyam Kumar, employees of a private company, to carry out interior work at the house. However, the work had been delayed for over a month.

On October 16, Babu called Vimal and expressed his anger over the delay. Later that night, Vimal called Babu again and told him that the materials for the work had arrived, and asked him to visit the site. When Babu and Deepika went there early on October 17, Vimal and Shyam Kumar allegedly abused them verbally, assaulted Deepika with an iron rod, and struck Babu on the head with the same, before threatening to kill them.

Babu, who sustained a bleeding head injury, was admitted to a private hospital for treatment. Deepika lodged a complaint at the Villivakkam police station seeking action against the duo.

Following an investigation, police arrested the accused — Vimal, 30, of Nemilichery, Thiruninravur, and Shyam Kumar, 25, of Nathammedu, both from Tiruvallur district — on Friday.
