The Bengaluru city police arrested two suspects on Friday, a day after the murder of 20-year-old BPharma student Yamini Priya in Malleswaram.
The accused have been identified as Vignesh, 29, unemployed, and Harish, 36, who does fabric work. While Vignesh has been booked for murder, Harish has been arrested for aiding him.
Yamini, a resident of Srirampura, was found murdered near Jakkarayanakere Railway tracks on Thursday. Vignesh followed Yamini while she was returning home from college, the police said.
According to the police, Vignesh had approached Yamini with a marriage proposal in April earlier this year which she had refused and subsequently lodged a complaint. “Srirampura police had summoned and interrogated him. He was released after giving an undertaking that he would not engage in such acts again,” said the officer.
Vignesh was frustrated after this and decided to eliminate her, the police said. He purchased a knife from a nearby shop before the attack, which has been recovered. Harish allegedly assisted Vignesh in fleeing from the crime scene, according to the police.
