Oct. 17 (UPI) -- The release of Bugonia on Friday marks not only a reunion for filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos with some of his favorite actors, it's also a return to a story that's been told before -- in Save the Green Planet! from South Korean director Jang Joon-hwan.
English-language remakes of foreign movies is nothing new, and Hollywood and independent studios have found particular inspiration in many of the most successful and acclaimed films made in Asia.
Here's a look at some of the most notable English-language adaptations of successful Asian films:
'Save the Green Planet!'/'Bugonia'
Lanthimos' film stars Emma Stone as the CEO of a major company who becomes the target of two conspiracy theorists. Played by Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis, the pair believe Stone's character, Michelle, is destroying the planet. The two men kidnap Michelle, whom they believe to be an alien.
