Saveetha Medical College and Hospital, under Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), commemorated World Geriatric Day on Thursday.

Lakshmikanthan Bharathi, retired IAS officer, who is 100 years old, inaugurated an outpatient department for the elderly, while N.M. Veeraiyan, Founder and Chancellor, SIMATS, released a book “Keeping Teeth Healthy in Old Age” on the occasion.

V.S. Natarajan, a pioneer in geriatric medicine, delivered a special lecture on “Is Old Age a Pleasure or a Burden?”, according to a press release.

Speakers highlighted the need to address the physical, mental and emotional dimensions of geriatric health through compassionate care, awareness programmes and research-driven interventions. As a part of the initiative, more than 100 elderly patients received free comprehensive health check-ups.
