Traffic was affected on Thursday morning after a portion of the service lane on Rajiv Gandhi Salai caved in near the VHS Hospital bus stop in Taramani.

According to police officials at the scene, the pit may have formed due to silt accumulation in the underground sewage pipeline, which likely caused the pipe to rupture. The resulting leak led to the damage.

Repair work is currently under way to restore the road, officials added.
