GUWAHATI An organisation of indigenous faith adherents in Arunachal Pradesh has called for a mass rally on October 18 for the implementation of a law perceived to arrest religious conversions.
Christians in the State are opposed to the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act of 1978, which the Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) insists is not against any religion.
Seeking the implementation of the Act that has been in the cold storage for more than four decades, members of the IFCSAP and the Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Affairs Council said Chief Minister Pema Khandu “must finish what Prem Khandu began in 1978”.
‘Prem Khandu’ refers to Prem Khandu Thungon, the first Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, who headed the Janata Party government for a little over four years from August 1975.
“The Act is not against any religion. It is meant to protect all religions and preserve the indigenous cultures in the State,” IFCSAP president Emi Rumi said.
