Around 122 kg of banned firecrackers were seized and a grocery store owner was arrested for illegal sale and storage from West Jyoti Nagar in north-east Delhi on Wednesday, the police said.
Acting on a tip-off, the Eastern Range-II team of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch conducted a raid at the residence of Vivek from where he was also running his grocery shop.
The police found that the 21-year-old shopkeeper had been hoarding and selling banned firecrackers from the ground floor of the premises. Mr. Vivek sourced the firecrackers from outside Delhi after some customers enquired about their availability, the police said, adding that 11 plastic bags containing firecrackers of different brands and types were recovered from his possession.
A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Environment (Protection) Act and the Explosives Act.
