“The NDA-led Union government is bringing major reforms in medical education. The number of medical seats across the country has been significantly increased in the last few years,” Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said in Dharwad on Saturday.

He said that India’s medical education system, through its practices and experience, is helping the nation produce a large number of skilled doctors.

However, India also needs a greater number of researchers in the field of medicine, he added.

He urged young medical graduates and post-graduates to consider medical research as a life-long profession. He was addressing a batch of first year MBBS students at the SDM College of Medical Sciences.

Mr. Joshi said that medical practice is a highly respected profession and that practitioners need to earn respect through selfless service.
