The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Friday installed 20 aerobins in the Sangli Mess area to process wet waste on-site, turning it into compost and eliminating the need for transporting the waste to processing plants.

Each 400-litre aerobin can process about 15 kilograms of wet waste daily, and the compost will support NDMC horticulture and local use, advancing recycling and a circular economy.

“Segregating and treating waste where it is generated is key to building a clean, sustainable city,” said Dinesh Pratap Singh, the NDMC council member, at the inauguration event. He added that such community-level initiatives can help move towards a zero-waste model.

The inauguration was attended by Dr. Shakuntala Srivastava, Medical Officer of Health (MOH), and members of the Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA).

The project is part of NDMC’s larger effort to strengthen decentralised waste management and enhance its green initiatives.
