Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Jerry is expected to travel north through the weekend before veering eastward as it nears Bermuda Sunday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center said Friday.
The storm formed about midday Tuesday and had been expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Friday. It is no longer predicted to do so, according to the NHC's 11 a.m. AST update. The storm was about 140 miles north of the Northern Leeward Islands and 840 miles south of Bermuda, and was moving northwest at 16 mph.
The NHC said Jerry would bring heavy rainfall to the Leeward Islands, the British and U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico on Friday.
"A turn toward the north is expected by this evening, with that motion continuing through Sunday," the NHC said. "A turn toward the northeast and east-northeast is forecast Sunday night and Monday."
All watches and warnings were canceled Friday.
