Al-Shamie is said to have made the emergency call immediately after driving into worshippers at the gates of a Manchester and stabbing at least two people.His claim of responsibility and clearly defined motive expressed to the operator prompted counter-terror police to swiftly declare the attack a terrorist incident, The Sun reported.Police have confirmed they received a call made by the attacker making the IS claim. But despite his claim of acting on behalf of Islamic State, police and MI5 have been unable to establish any links between al-Shamie and any terror groups. Reportedly a university drop-out, al-Shamie was born in Syria but was granted British citizenship in 2006 when he was around 16, having entered the UK as a young child.Greater Manchester Police said he 'may have been influenced by extreme Islamist ideology'.A Counter Terrorism Policing North West spokesperson said: 'We can confirm that, in the initial stages of the attack, a call was made by the attacker to police claiming to pledge allegiance to the so-called Islamic State.'We are continuing to investigate the full circumstances and motivation behind what happened.
