A Polish woman accused of stalking Kate McCann for years and claiming to be her missing child, Madeleine, wrote to her saying: 'You know who I am, I am your daughter.' Julia Wandelt - who is on trial alongside Karen Spragg, 61 - allegedly stalked the McCanns for almost three years, turning up at a vigil for the missing girl, as well as trying to contact Madeleine's two younger siblings.Leicester Crown Court heard 24-year-old Wandelt also penned a 'distressing' letter to 57-year-old Mrs McCann a day after turning up at her Leicestershire home with Spragg. In it, the Polish national is accused of writing: 'Dear Mum (Kate), I'm so sorry for causing you so much distress, but when I saw you yesterday, my emotions were so strong. I felt a close connection to you. I don't like seeing you upset.'All I want is to find out the truth. I have memories and I have gathered a lot of evidence supporting my case.'She added: 'I think that inside your heart you believe and know who I am and I am your daughter,' before going on to sign off the letter with a kiss. An emotional Mrs McCann and her husband, Gerry, both took to the witness stand to give evidence in the trial today, in which they denied Wandelt was their daughter. At the end of Mrs McCann's evidence, a hysterical Wandelt wept uncontrollably and screamed 'why are you doing this to me' as she was led away from the dock. This afternoon, a tearful Mr McCann broke down, insisting his family still had a 'glimmer of hope' they would one day be reunited with his daughter, who has not been seen for more than 18 years. But speaking of Wandelt, he said: 'We know she is not our daughter.'
