The Surathkal Police arrested Hamja Kuppikanda, Varkala village, Thiruvananthapuram district, on charges of stealing a motorcycle and a pick-up vehicle on Tuesday, October 7, in Mangaluru.

The Surathkal Police on Tuesday, October 7, arrested an alleged inter-State thief from Kerala and recovered a motorcycle and a pickup vehicle worth ₹3.1 lakh from him.The police gave the name of the accused as Hamja Kuppikanda alias Hamsa alias Hamja Ponnan, 29, son of Shaji alias Shafi, resident of Varkala village, Thiruvananthapuram district.One Sukumar, resident of Kulai in the Surathkal police limits had complained to the police that a pickup vehicle parked in his house compound was found missing on September 30. The police had on October 3 registered a case in this regard.When the police intercepted the accused who was riding a motorcycle in a suspicious manner on Tuesday, they found that the vehicle was stolen from Mangaluru South police limits recently. On further inquiry, the accused revealed that he was the one who had stolen the pickup vehicle from Kulai too.Th police said Hamja Kuppikanda was a habitual offender engaged in theft and was facing over 17 cases in different police stations in Kerala, including mobile theft, vehicle theft etc.The Surathkal Police Inspector Pramod Kumar directed the probe through PSI Shashidhar Shetty, ASI Rajesh Alva and staff Umesh, Vinod Kumar, Nagaraj, and Sunil.
