Country singer Zach Bryan has sparked controversy among right-leaning listeners with his new song “Bad News,” which criticizes U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. In an explicit Instagram post on Friday, the Grammy-winning artist teased the track, in which he refers to cops as “cocky motherfuckers” and later shifts his focus to ICE. “And ICE is gonna come, bust down your door /Try to build a house no one builds no more /But I got a telephone /Kids are all scared and all alone,” Bryan sings in the clip. The post, which was captioned, “the fading of red, white, and blue,” ruffled the feathers of prominent supporters of President Donald Trump and many took to X, formerly Twitter, to voice their outrage.Tricia McLaughlin, an assistant secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, urged Bryan to “Stick to Pink Skies,” referencing the artist’s 2024 song.DHS took it a step further to troll Bryan by including one of his older songs in a video montage showing ICE agents detaining individuals they classify as undocumented immigrants.“We were just invaded by over 10 million illegal aliens and who does Zach Bryan cheer for? The illegals,” right-wing commentator Rogan O’Handley wrote on X, adding that he expects supporters will now “boycott” the artist.A newly released song snippet from country artist Zach Bryan (left) drew criticism from supports of President Donald Trump.Getty ImagesBryan was also criticized by fellow country music artists, such as John Rich, who claimed Nashville is “full of guys like this,” a comment that prompted Fox News commentator Tomi Lahren to comment “trash.” “Who’s ready for the Zach Bryan-Dixie Chicks tour? Prob a huge Bud Light sponsorship for this one,” Rich added in a separate post, drawing a parallel between the political views of the band now known as The Chicks and including a nod to Bud Light’s past partnerships with members of the LGBTQ+ community. Trump supporter and activist Michael Engleman called Bryan a “no name Country artist.”“No name Country artist Zach Bryan, slams ice for deporting criminal illegal immigrants,” he wrote. “It’s a stretch calling him an ‘artist’ because he has no talent!” The right-wing X account Catturd also weighed in, claiming Bryan’s career is now “in the toilet.”Bryan’s team did not immediately respond to a HuffPost request for comment.
