Rainwater overflowing from the Karim Sahib Lake and the feeding lakes continue to inundate the villages in Kattiganapalli panchayatin in Krishnagiri for the second consecutive day .The water from Chinna Eri feeding the Karim Sahib lake breached to flow into the roads of Devasamuthiram affecting commute for the public.Speaking to The Hindu, Nagaraj, a resident of Devasamuthiram village, said while the block development officials visited the spot and dredged the canal, there was no sign of the water receding. “It is particularly difficult for children going to school in the morning,” he said. The dredging entailed removal of the floating water hyacinths in the canal, which the residents say was not large enough to collect the gushing waters that flows down the adjacent hills during heavy rain. “The water is flowing from the hills and we have been asking for a check dam to collect the water nearer to the source where there is an expanse of cultivable area requiring this water,” added Mr. Nagaraj. The continuing deluge from breached lakes has highlighted the absence of sustainable water harvesting systems at the local level, he said.On Tuesday (October 7, 2025), water continued to flow on the road in Devasamuthiram village, equally affecting Ponmalaikottai, Iylkottai, Kurijipatti villages. “There are over 6000 families here and everybody is forced to navigate throught the waters,” he says. The water is also slowly eroding the poorly constructed tar roads. Once the water recedes, we would be left with a broken road, added Mr. Nagaraj. Published - October 07, 2025 08:32 pm IST
