An Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in Haryana police Y. Puran Kumar, was allegedly found dead with a gunshot wound at his residence in Chandigarh, police said on Tuesday (October 7, 2025).Mr. Kumar, 52, was stationed as Inspector General of Police at Police Training Centre (PTC), Sunaria in Haryana’s Rohtak.Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur told media persons that the police and a team of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory reached the spot after getting the information, and investigations were underway. “The SHO and his team inspected the scene. A reported suicide had taken place,” she added.Responding to a question whether any suicide note was recovered, Ms. Kaur said, “Those present in the house at the time are being questioned.”Previously serving as Rohtak Range IG, Mr. Kumar was recently transferred to the position of IG, PTC Sunaria. He has lately been raising issues concerning scheduled caste representation within the police force.Mr. Kumar’s wife, Amneet. P.
