The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) conducted a thorough search at the headquarters of The Hindu on Anna Salai, Chennai, on Monday morning (October 6, 2025), following a threatening email that claimed that three RDX IEDs had been planted in the building. The squad determined the threat to be a hoax.
The email, sent at 8:45 a.m., was addressed to the Tamil Nadu Director-General of Police and The Hindu’s Readers Editor. It came from an individual claiming to be “Fayaz Pandian Pak ISI- Coimbatore Wing.” The subject line read: “From The River to The Sea: 3 RDX IEDs Planted in Kasturi Building. 859-860, Anna Salai, Chennai. Evac Before Blasts!”
The email further alleged Bangladesh-based agencies were active in Chennai and Tiruvallur, allegedly working through “clandestine mingling with north Indian workers.” It also claimed explosives had been planted in the newspaper’s office.
