Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs L. Murugan said on Sunday that the Central Government had given ₹12 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu over the last 11 years.The Minister, who visited Namakkal Anjaneyar Temple and Narasimha Swamy Temple, told reporters that following GST reforms, prices of all products had reduced and medicines, food, and stationary items have exemptions. The price of construction materials had also reduced.Stating that the Central Government gave ₹12 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu over the last 11 years, the Union Minister said the Prime Minister was working for the welfare of Tamils and their pride and culture.Responding to an allegation by the Chief Minister that the Central Government was creating hurdle in retrieving Katchatheevu, the Minister said that Mr. Stalin should read history. The Congress gave the island to Sri Lanka without any discussions in Parliament and the DMK allegedly gave its consent at that time. While Congress was in power, no steps were taken to retrieve the island. The Chief Minister was speaking so for political gains. During the 2004-2014 UPA government, every day fishermen were killed. But after 2014, when the NDA came to power, there were no firing incidents and through diplomacy, arrested fishermen were brought from Sri Lanka and five fishermen were saved from death sentence, Mr. Murugan added.Regarding the Chief Minister’s statement that truth will come out in the Karur stampede, the Minister said, “We will have to wait and see.” Published - October 05, 2025 09:17 pm IST
