VSeveral issues, including the proposed privatisation of medical colleges, the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) row, Operation Lungs, and the proposed Bulk Drug Park at Payakaraopeta, were discussed at the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) North Andhra regional coordination meeting, regional coordinator Kurasala Kannababu said on Sunday.Addressing a press conference after the meeting at Anandapuram, Mr. Kannababu said the YSRCP has consistently opposed privatisation of medical colleges. The party passed a resolution against the move and plans to intensify protests in the coming days. He added that YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will visit the Narsipatnam Assembly Constituency medical college on October 9 as part of the ongoing agitation.On the VSP issue, Mr. Kannababu accused the NDA government of misleading the public and urged the Centre to make a clear statement on the steel plant’s future.Referring to the Bulk Drug Park at Payakaraopeta, he said many fishermen are protesting, citing environmental risks and potential restrictions on fishing if the project goes ahead. The YSRCP has demanded that the government reconsider or cancel it.Mr. Kannababu also criticised the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation’s Operation Lungs, alleging that over 42,000 units were removed, affecting hundreds of families.He further accused the NDA government of neglecting irrigation projects in North Andhra over the past 15 months and condemned land allocations to select IT companies at nominal rates.Mr. Kannababu said the party is focused on strengthening its organisation from the grassroots to the State level, with coordinator appointments at booth, ward, mandal, and State levels under way, expected to conclude by the end of November.The meeting was attended by YSRCP MLC Botcha Satyanarayana, former Minister Gudivada Amarnath, former Deputy Chief Minister Budi Mutyala Naidu, and other party representatives from the North Andhra districts.
