Two sisters returning home from a temple died after a container truck hit their scooter from behind near Shivanapura on the eastern outskirts of Bengaluru on October 3, police said.The deceased have been identified as Shwetha, 22, and Shailaja, 24, residents of Hosakote. A police officer overseeing the case told The Hindu that the sisters had visited a temple at Kaiwara, and were returning home at the time of the accident around 1.45 p.m.According to the police, the Chintamani-Hosakote highway has a bad stretch where the accident took place. However, they said the primary cause of the collision was reckless driving by the container truck driver.Shwetha died on the spot. Shailaja was rushed to a nearby private hospital, but succumbed to her injuries. Police are searching for the container driver.“We have seized the container. The suspect will be arrested soon,” said an investigator.The driver has been booked under BNS sections 281 (rash driving on a public way) and 106 (causing death by negligence).
