However, when Mr. Deivendran rejected their request to allow a public path through his land for which he claimed to have a title (patta). He claimed to have obtained a court order in his favour in the matter. Upon receiving the order, he fenced the land. Demanding that a public road be allowed through the land, a group of residents of the village, accompanied by cadres of CPI (M) district secretary Ilangovan and State Committee member Nagarajan, went to stage a protest at Palakkarai. When they approached the spot, the police reportedly prevented them from proceeding further, thereby leading to heated arguments between them. The cadres allegedly removed the fence. Following this, the police detained around 50 of them. They were released later in the day. Published - October 03, 2025 11:10 pm IST
