The crime wing police on Friday (October 03, 2025) arrested a 34-year-old man, reportedly part of the notorious Bawaria gang, allegedly involved in nine chain snatching offences and two bike theft cases on September 17 in the city. The accused was identified as Dharmendra Kumar (34) from Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh.Addressing a press conference at the police conference hall on Friday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crimes) Latha Madhuri said that the accused along with three members of the gang had arrived in Visakhapatnam on September 17. The DCP said that initially they committed two bike thefts at M.R. Peta and II Town limits, and then committed seven chain snatchings at Kancharapalem, MR Peta, Sheela Nagar and other places. After committing the crimes, the accused fled to Uttar Pradesh.The DCP said that acting on a tip-off, a special police team went to Uttar Pradesh to arrest the main accused. She also assured that the remaining members of the gang will be also arrested soon. ACP Annepu Narasimha Murthy was also present. Published - October 03, 2025 11:27 pm IST
