The police on Wednesday (September 1) arrested a man from Kasaragod for allegedly attempting to kidnap a 10-year-old boy. The incident took place when the boy was returning home after madrasa classes near Payyanakkara in Kozhikode.
The accused, identified as Sinan Ali Yousef, 33, of Parappa in Kasaragod, was apprehended with the support of a few local residents who reportedly witnessed the incident.
A car that the accused reportedly used was impounded by the police. According to the police, it was a stolen vehicle that he used to mislead investigators and cover up his identity. The accused was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
Child Welfare department sources said the boy did not sustain injuries in the incident.
