Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was discharged on Thursday after undergoing a pacemaker implantation procedure on Wednesday at M.S. Ramaiah Memorial Hospital in Bengaluru.
The 84-year-old Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha was brought to the hospital on September 30 for a general health check-up following discomfort in breathing. Doctors, who examined him, found he had a low heart rate and advised for implanting a pacemaker. He was admitted to the hospital.
“We found all his other parameters to be normal except for a low heart rate. We advised the pacemaker implantation, and it was planned for October 1. He was moved to the room from the ICU on Thursday and discharged in the night,” according to authorities in the hospital.
Will resume work from October 3
His son Priyank Kharge, who is Karnataka’s Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, IT-BT Minister, said the pacemaker implantation procedure was successfully completed on Thursday. “It was a short and minor procedure,” he said.
