A doctor, his wife, and a staff member of a private hospital in Edappadi were arrested on Monday (September 29, 2025) night for allegedly revealing the sex of a foetus.
The arrested were identified as Kannan (58), a doctor, Jothi (38), his wife, and Meganathan, a staff member.
The hospital, owned by Kannan, is located on Vellandivalasu Road in Edappadi. The Health Department had received information that the hospital was revealing the sex of foetuses for a fee ranging from ₹15,000 to ₹20,000. To verify the information, officials sent a pregnant woman as a decoy patient. After receiving the money, the hospital staff disclosed the sex of the foetus.
Following this, a team led by Deputy Director of Health Services S. Soundammal raided the hospital. On seeing the team, Kannan, Jothi and Meganathan attempted to remove the scan machine. However, the team intercepted and alerted the Edappadi police. The three were handed over to the police, and a complaint was lodged.
The hospital was sealed, and the trio was arrested.
