Awareness campaigns and meetings marked the World Heart Day celebrations at various hospitals in the city on Monday (September 29, 2025).Apollo Hospitals organised a Zumba programme to encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, emphasising exercise as a key factor in preventing heart disease. Doctors, nurses, hospital staff, and members of the public participated in the Zumba session held at Kailasgiri.Cardiovascular disease continues to claim millions of lives each year, yet most of these losses are preventable through timely detection, treatment, and lifestyle changes, the doctors said. Two health packages, focusing on the early detection of heart-related ailments, were launched. These packages are designed to help people understand their current heart condition and identify any potential risk of heart disease.Dr. D.K. Baruah, Senior Interventional Cardiologist and Cath Lab Director, Dr. N. K. Panigrahi, Senior Interventional Cardiologist and HOD Cardiology, Dr. Sashanka Ch, Senior Interventional Cardiologist, were among those who participated in the programme.Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao inaugurated the World Heart Day event at KIMS Cuddles Hospital. Mayor Peela Srinivas and BJP State vice president Adari Anand participated.Dr. Shantipriya, paediatric cardiologist at KIMS Cuddles, explained about the challenges faced by children with congenital heart diseases and the treatment options available. Dr. Satish Kumar Petakamsetty and Dr. Saibal Ram Krishna also spoke.The doctors said that while heart problems in children are complex, they are treatable and timely treatment makes a lot of difference.
