The police in Bareilly on Monday (September 29, 2025) detained a close associate of the Ittehad-e-Millat Council chief and Islamic cleric Tauqeer Raza Khan in connection with the recent violence in Bareilly during a protest in support of the ‘I love Muhammad’ campaign.The police said the accused, Nadeem, conspired to launch a massive agitation via the protest on Friday (September 26, 2025). “Nadeem allegedly orchestrated the protest. The individual called 55 people through WhatsApp, who then mobilised a crowd of around 1,600 people,” the Bareilly police said. The police on September 27 arrested eight persons, including Mr. Khan, whose call for a protest supporting the ‘I love Muhammad’ campaign led to a violent clash. Ten First Information Reports have been registered in different police stations in Bareilly district. The police detained at least 39 persons in connection with the violence. Door-to-door checking has been initiated in the area to nab the accused by analysing CCTV and video footage.
