To mark World Suicide Prevention Day, the Madras School of Social Work (MSSW) held a panel discussion on September 24, titled ‘Beyond a Quick Fix’. Against the backdrop of 1,71,000 suicides reported in India in 2022, panelists called for a shift from short-term, medicalised responses to more holistic, long-term approaches. Speakers included psychiatrists S. Mohan Raj and R. Mangala, clinical psychologist Keerthi Pai, mental health activist Nandini Murali, and student representative Kishore Kumar V.N. Key themes included the importance of postvention, community resilience, responsible media coverage, and listening to lived experiences. The panel was moderated by student Sania Tanveer.
