A police man from Mumbai was allegedly cheated by a gang promising to give double the sum of money here on Friday.Following a complaint from Lakshman Damna Khurade, 35, of Mumbai, who is working as a constable in the Bandhra police control room, the Periakulam police have registered a case.The complainant said that a man in Dharavi had introduced him to a person in Tamil Nadu a few months ago, who had claimed himself to be an expert in giving double the sum of money. The complainant was lured that he would get ₹1 crore in exchange if he gave ₹50 lakh in cash.Thus, on September 22, the Mumbai policeman, with a relative, whose name was given as Gangadhar, arrived by train in Dindigul railway station and reached Theni district. They stayed in a hotel on the Dindigul-Batlagundu Main Road.Three persons, who identified themselves as Senthil, Sekarbabu and others had insisted that they cannot get anything in exchange for less than ₹50 lakh, when the policeman said that he had only ₹35 lakh. After persuasion, while receiving the cash, four other persons had reportedly barged into the room, who claimed themselves as policemen.In separate vehicles, they took the Mumbai policeman and his relative Gangadhar to an undisclosed destination. According to the complainant, he was dropped off somewhere on the Dindigul-Batlagundu stretch and with the help of the locals, he reached the Periyakulam police station and submitted the petition with the help of a person, who knew Hindi.Based on the complaint, the police took out the CCTV footage from the private hotel and also checked the mobile phone of Lakshman.A senior officer, who was part of the investigation, said that the Mumbai policeman’s relatives wanted to make money and hence he had brought the cash to Tamil Nadu.Further investigation was on.
