Sir Keir Starmer's plans for a new digital ID held on people's phones have caused significant debate in Britain this week amid claims they are 'dystopian' proposals.Digital ID will become mandatory in the UK as a means of proving the right to work under the plans, but people will not be required to carry or asked to produce it.The Prime Minister hopes the scheme will help efforts to reduce illegal immigration by curbing the ability of those who come to the country illegally to earn money. But civil liberties groups branded the introduction of a 'papers please' society 'un-British' - and warned that older people could be 'locked out' of essential services. The Mail asked in yesterday's poll: 'Are you willing to have a Government-issued digital ID card?' Out of 125,000 votes, 25 per cent said 'yes' and 75 per cent 'no'.Now, have your say on the illegal migration aspect - after Sir Keir said the cards will 'make it tougher to work illegally in this country, making our borders more secure'.In yesterday's other poll, Mail readers were asked: 'Would Andy Burnham be a better prime minister than Sir Keir Starmer?' Out of more than 14,000 votes, it was a split 51 per cent 'yes' and 49 per cent 'no'.
