A 55-year-old man, who suffered grievous injuries after being attacked by a wild elephant near Coimbatore on Thursday (September 25, 2025), died without responding to treatment early on Friday (September 26).The deceased has been identified as Maruthachalam alias Senthil, who worked in a farm at Bommanampalayam in the Maruthamalai foothills.According to the Forest Department, Maruthachalam had been working and residing with his family in the farm belonging to Rajendran of Bommanampalayam. The village is located close to reserve forest areas of the Coimbatore forest range.Maruthachalam was attacked by a wild elephant that entered the farm around 7 p.m. on Thursday. He suffered grievous injuries in the attack and his abdomen was ruptured.The victim was rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, where he was under treatment in the critical care unit.
