Communal clashes erupted following an objectionable social media post in Bahiyal village of Dehgam taluk in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district late on Wednesday (September 24, 2025) night, resulting in violence and arson, the police said on Thursday (September 25, 2025).Around 60 people have been detained in connection with the clashes, Additional Superintendent of Police (Dehgam) Ayush Jain said. Over 200 people were involved in stone pelting, which left several vehicles and shops damaged and some of them were set on fire. Bahiyal is about 38 km from Gandhinagar city.Mr. Jain said a WhatsApp status posted by a Hindu man referencing an ongoing social media trend, “I love Muhammad” and “I love Mahadev”, angered members of the minority community, triggering the attack. Around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, a mob allegedly broke the shutters of a shop owned by the man who had uploaded the status. Heavy police deployment was made, and the situation was brought under control, he added.Mr. Jain said the situation remains under control.
