Sept. 25 (UPI) -- The United States executed two death row inmates on Thursday evening -- one in Alabama and the other in Texas -- during a year that has seen an uptick in inmates being put to death.
Geoffrey Todd West, 50, died by nitrogen hypoxia at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, located near the Alabama border along the Florida Panhandle for the 1997 murder of 33-year-old Margaret Parrish Berry.
And in Texas, the state executed 35-year-old Blaine Milam for the December 2008 assault and murder of his fiancee's 13-month-old daughter, Amora Bain Carson.
With their executions, the United States has killed 33 death row inmates this year, the most since 35 capital punishment sentences were carried out in 2014, and continuing a trend of increasing executions from a low of 11 during 2021.
