One of the most widely read writers of Kannada and Saraswati Samman awardee S.L. Bhyrappa, 94, passed away at a private hospital in Bengaluru on September 24, 2025. He was suffering from age-related ailments and was under treatment in the city for the past three months.A native of Santheshivara in Channarayapatna taluk of Hassan district, Bhyrappa studied in Hassan and Mysuru districts. He served as a professor of philosophy in various parts of India, including Gujarat and New Delhi, even as he continued to write his novels. Bhyrappa is survived by wife Saraswati and two sons, Uday Shankar and Ravi Shankar.
