The Supreme Court on Thursday (September 25, 2025) walked the middle path by lifting a stay on the conduct of Ramlila celebrations at a school playground in Uttar Pradesh but directing, at the same time, the State to find an alternative spot to hold the religious event in future so that children do not lose their play space.A Bench headed by Justice Surya Kant had decided to urgently list the case for hearing after the Ramlila organisers rushed to the top court against an ex parte stay issued by the Allahabad High Court on the ongoing celebrations at the Jilla Parishad Vidhyalaya in Firozabad district. The organisers argued that Ramlila was played at the school grounds for at least 100 years. The school does not object to the festivities and the children also participate.
