Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said that witnessing the house-warming ceremonies of Indiramma houses across the State has brought tears of joy to his eyes.Calling it a blessing from past good deeds, he said such moments were the most fulfilling in his public life. He was participating as the chief guest at the house-warming programme of Indiramma houses in Arempula village of his Palair constituency on Wednesday. The Minister said that the opportunity to provide shelter to the poor was nothing short of divine grace.Recollecting earlier criticism, he noted that when Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced the scheme as part of Congress’ election promise, opposition parties had ridiculed it as an empty assurance.“They mocked us, claiming the government had no funds and would cheat people with mere papers. Today, those false allegations stand exposed as 4.5 lakh houses have been sanctioned across the State, with 3,500 allotted to each constituency, and house-warming ceremonies are under way,” he said. The Minister recalled that late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had constructed 25 lakh Indiramma houses and under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, history was repeating itself.Mr. Ponguleti took a swipe at the previous government, alleging that instead of building houses for the poor, it diverted focus to projects like Kaleshwaram only to make money through commissions. He said Telangana, once a wealthy State, could have easily constructed one lakh houses annually and benefited 10 lakh families in ten years. Instead, greed for commissions led to Kaleshwaram’s downfall. Published - September 24, 2025 09:32 pm IST
